This is America.

Our voices are strong, independent, and free. In this country, we are born into a promise – that we can do or be anything we want. We can live our best lives because we have the option  – the privilege  – to create them.

But throughout what felt like the longest year of our lives, 2025, a shadow has been growing over the citizens of this great land. Like a fantasy tale, a darkness has crept in to the homes, heads, and hearts of so many. As a nation, we have grown heavy, too weighted, too disoriented and too anxious to deal properly with the swift and terrifying changes that have come from our current administration.

We did not foresee a government playing outside of the rules. We did not expect a leader to live as though the law did not apply to him. We did not believe that evil was so present, waiting just under the surface to emerge and overwhelm.

And so, we’ve watched – on our screens and in our streets – a democracy that has been painstakingly built and maintained, that has been our glorious identity, descend into madness at warp speed.

We looked at each other and said, “What can we do?” We were asking literally. We would post on our feed, call our representatives, and write letters. We would sometimes fill the streets shouting “No Kings!”, marching in a mix of contempt and joy with our communities. How wonderful to have a break from being discouraged individuals and feel alive within a resistance whole. Louder together, in all the ways.

But when it was over, it wasn’t enough. Not in a world of Steve Bannon-fueled muzzle velocity.

Lies spread six times faster online, and this administration knows it. Our responses have no time to bloom before the next political slap in the face strikes. Everything is under attack, especially from a progressive point of view. And speaking of, that point of view might land us on a list of potential Domestic Terrorists.

One vote may be all we have, but one voice is no longer an option.  We began to think on how we can permeate our protests into our lives, weaving them passively into our being – errands to the local supermarket, the library, to a political rally.

How could we have more than one voice or one message? How might we tell the world where we stand, while simultaneously inviting a conversation, a question, a smile or, most importantly, a laugh? That’s where Creatures of Rebellion comes in.

We decided to begin a brand of apparel that could speak for us. We would collide our creativity, our political frustration, and our senses of humor into one place – and sometimes even one shirt! As writers and artists, this is our perfect hope: that Creatures of Rebellion can resonantly touch the masses at a time when silence is equal to complicity. We want people to see exactly how loud our collective voices can be, and what better way than to unify through a kind of progressive brand? Something visual we can see so that, from afar, we might breathe a sigh of relief.

Every day there is noise, noise, noise, absurdity and noise coming from the circus performing live at our nation’s capital. To do nothing is to normalize it, and we can’t have that. We won’t. Because, as that gloriously-permed hair band, Twisted Sister, said: “We’re not gonna take it.”

Why? Because we’re not. We’re not gonna take it. We do not accept the leadership that has no interest in the country it is leading. We do not accept lawlessness, or trampling of rubber boots on our constitution, which was put into place to protect the freedoms of the American people. We do not accept the gaslighting, the hoodwinkery, the bullshit, the rampant misogyny and racism, or the death of DEI. We do not accept a POTUS who prioritizes profit from his position over all else.

We resist and encourage others to do the same. We want to pass you the megaphone with our messaging, sending reinforcements to those who feel distraught or alone  – a progressive in a small, conservative town, or a liberal voice that has personal rights to fight for in a devouring city. Wherever you are, Creatures of Rebellion wants to be there too. As new battles emerge, new anthems will follow.

We want to connect you and we want to be connected with you. We are your advocates. We are your community in blue. And we won’t behave, because resistance is just so @$!#ing cute.

And release the Epstein files.
